Terms of Service
What this agreement says, in short
- Kitchen Khata is a free Android app for managing your grocery list and home inventory.
- You can use it as a guest without giving us any information, or sign up for a free account to unlock more features.
- Don't use the app to do illegal things, attack our systems, or copy our work.
- We do our best to keep the app working but can't promise it will never have bugs or downtime.
- If you break these rules, we may suspend or close your account.
- Indian law applies. If we ever have a serious dispute, courts in Pune handle it.
Who we are and what this agreement is
Kitchen Khata ("the app", "we", "us") is a grocery management Android application provided by Onlybizbasics.com from Pimpri-Chinchwad, Maharashtra, India. These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a legal agreement between you and us governing your use of the Kitchen Khata app and any related services.
By installing, opening, or using Kitchen Khata — whether as a guest or as a signed-in user — you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
These Terms apply to all versions of the app distributed through Google Play and any direct distribution we make. If we offer the app on additional platforms in the future, the same Terms will apply unless we say otherwise.
How you can use Kitchen Khata
Kitchen Khata can be used in three ways depending on whether you sign in:
- Guest mode — you can use core features (personal grocery list, recipes, food facts) without creating an account. Your data stays on your device.
- Free account — you can sign up using your email or Google Sign-In to unlock home inventory, family sharing, voice input, recurring items, and more.
- Premium account — a paid Premium tier with additional features (such as Consumption Dashboard and Monthly Calendar Summary) is coming soon. We will publish updated Terms covering payment, renewal, and cancellation before Premium goes live.
You must be 18 or older to create an account. If you are under 18, you may use guest mode only with a parent or guardian's permission, and you must not provide any personal information.
Your account and security
If you sign up for a free account, you agree to:
- Provide accurate information (your real name and a working email address)
- Keep your login credentials safe and not share them with anyone outside your household
- Tell us promptly at support@kitchenkhata.com if you suspect someone has accessed your account without your permission
- Use the email address you signed up with — if you lose access to it, we may not be able to recover your account
You are responsible for everything that happens on your account. If you create a family home and invite others, you are responsible for choosing whom to invite — once they have your invite code, they can see and add to your shared lists and inventory until you remove them.
What you may and may not do with the app
You may use Kitchen Khata for personal household use — yours and your family's. You may share your shopping list with others through WhatsApp or other messaging apps using the share feature.
You agree not to:
- Use the app for any illegal purpose or in violation of Indian law
- Try to break, hack, reverse engineer, decompile, or interfere with the app or our backend systems
- Use bots, scripts, or automated tools to access the app, except through any official API we may publish in the future
- Copy the app's design, code, or content to build a competing product
- Upload or send content that is harmful, harassing, defamatory, obscene, or that infringes someone else's rights
- Use the app to spam, scam, or mislead others
- Attempt to access another user's account, family home, or data without permission
- Resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit the app or any content within it
We may suspend or close your account if you do any of the above, with or without notice depending on the seriousness.
Our content and yours
The Kitchen Khata app — including its design, code, logos, the 318-item Indian catalogue, recipes, food facts, and all other content we provide — belongs to us or to people who have licensed content to us. We give you a limited, personal, non-transferable permission to use the app for your own household needs. We are not transferring ownership of any of this to you.
The grocery lists, inventory entries, recipes you save, custom items you add, and family home data you create — that is yours. By using the app, you give us permission to store this data on Firebase (Google Cloud) so the app can work, sync across your devices, and share with your family members. We do not claim ownership of your content and we do not use it for advertising or sell it to anyone.
If you send us feedback, suggestions, or feature ideas, you agree we can use them to improve the app without owing you anything in return.
Privacy
How we handle your personal information is described in our Privacy Policy. The Privacy Policy is part of these Terms — by agreeing to these Terms, you also agree to the Privacy Policy.
In short: we collect only what's needed to run the app, we don't show ads, we don't sell your data, and you can request deletion of your account at any time.
Changes, downtime, and what we can't promise
Kitchen Khata is a young product and will keep changing. We may add features, change features, or remove features over time. For free users, we don't guarantee any specific feature will remain available forever — though we'll try to give notice for major removals.
We do our best to keep the app working reliably, but we provide it on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We can't promise:
- That the app will always be available without interruption
- That it will be free of bugs or work perfectly on every Android device
- That data sync between family members will always be instant
- That your data will never be lost (please do not rely on the app as your only record of important household information)
Technical failures happen — Google Cloud outages, Android system bugs, your phone running out of storage, network problems. We'll do what we reasonably can to recover from them, but we cannot guarantee zero data loss.
If the app is temporarily unavailable for maintenance or due to a problem at Firebase, please be patient — it usually comes back quickly.
Liability and risk
To the fullest extent allowed by Indian law, we are not liable for:
- Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages — for example, the cost of buying groceries you already had at home because the app's inventory was wrong
- Loss of data, lost time, lost business, or emotional distress arising from your use of the app
- Anything that happens because of a third party (Google, your internet provider, your phone manufacturer, family members who share your home account)
If we are found legally liable to you despite the above, our total liability for any single matter — and across all matters combined — will not exceed ₹1,000 or the amount you have paid us in the previous 12 months, whichever is greater. Since Kitchen Khata is currently free, this means our maximum liability is ₹1,000 per user.
Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for things that cannot be limited under Indian law — for example, liability for fraud, gross negligence, or wilful misconduct.
You agree that you use Kitchen Khata at your own risk and that you will not hold us responsible for losses that result from how you choose to use the app.
Suspending or closing accounts
You can stop using the app or delete your account at any time. To delete your account, follow the instructions in our Privacy Policy or contact us at support@kitchenkhata.com.
We can suspend or close your account if:
- You break these Terms
- You misuse the app in a way that affects other users (for example, abuse in shared family homes)
- We are required to do so by law or by a court order
- We discontinue the app entirely (we will give reasonable notice if we ever do this)
If we close your account because you broke these Terms, you cannot create a new account using a different email to bypass the ban. If you believe we closed your account by mistake, write to us at support@kitchenkhata.com and we will review.
Some sections of these Terms continue to apply even after your account is closed — specifically the parts about ownership, liability limits, and dispute resolution.
Indian law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 applies to our handling of your personal data. The Information Technology Act, 2000 and applicable consumer protection laws also apply.
If you have a complaint or dispute with us, please first write to support@kitchenkhata.com with details. We will try to resolve it informally within 30 days. Most issues can be sorted out this way.
If informal resolution doesn't work, any legal proceedings shall be brought exclusively in the competent courts of Pune, Maharashtra, India.
If you are a consumer protected by Indian consumer protection laws, those laws apply in addition to these Terms — they are not replaced by these Terms.
Changes to these Terms
As Kitchen Khata grows — when Premium launches, when we add new features, when laws change — we may update these Terms. When we make changes that materially affect your rights, we will:
- Update the "Effective date" at the top of this document
- Publish the new version on this page
- Notify signed-in users in the app on next launch
If you keep using the app after the new Terms become effective, you accept the changes. If you don't agree with them, you can stop using the app and delete your account.
